Preparing the Printables

Print one copy of the sequencing mats and the retelling page for each student. Print one copy of the sequencing discs for every two students.

I like to print the color version on cardstock and laminate the pages for durability. I cut out the sequencing discs and put a velcro dot on the back of each one. I put the other half of the velcro dot on each circle on the sequencing mat.

If using the black and white version, I print on regular printer paper. The kids can color the pictures and cut/paste them onto the sequencing mat.

COMPLETING THE ACTIVITY

You can use the laminated version of this life cycle of a butterfly sequencing pack in your science centers or as an individual activity. The cut/paste version can be used as seat work.

If you’d like to make the activity reusable, laminate the pages before cutting the pictures off the bottom of the page.

Then, put small velcro dots on the blank boxes and on the back of the sequencing pictures.

I like to use the black and white pages as independent work and put the color pages in a literacy center.

COMPLETING THE ACTIVITY

There are three sequencing activities included in this pack – each is available in a black and white version and full color version.

Activities include How to Trim a Tree, How to Bake Christmas Cookies, and How to Pack Presents.

Students will cut out the pictures at the bottom of the page. Have them place the pictures in the correct order so you can check their work before they glue them down.

After completing the page, have students use the page to tell the story in their own words.

I love incorporating the holidays into our homeschool lessons. These no-prep Halloween sequencing activities and worksheets are perfect for the month of October.

Because these worksheets are print-and-go, they are perfect for busy moms and homeschool co-op teachers.

These printables are great for helping kids practice their scissor skills, ordering events, and retelling stories.

Preparing the Worksheets

All you have to do to prepare this activity is print them out. It’s that easy!

However, if you’d like to make them reusable, you can laminate them after printing them out.

What does this activity teach?

This activity provides kids with an opportunity to strengthen their scissor skills as they cut out the sequencing pictures at the bottom of the page.

Then, they can get creative as they color the Halloween potions (if you choose the black and white version).

Lastly, let them get even more creative as they tell a story about the images.

Using this printable

To start, if you use the black and white version, have children color the sequencing pictures and cut them out.

Next, have them put the pictures in order to show how the bottles are filled to make the potion or brew (or Halloween soda if you shy away from references to witches).

Finally, after gluing the images in order, have children make up a story to go along with the pictures. What will they imagine is in their bottle?

Sentence sequencing is an important reading skill for students to master. It’s a skill that helps them understand what they’re reading, but it can be difficult for children to learn on their own.

That’s why sentence sequencing worksheets are so valuable in helping kids build this skill!

Why add in handwriting practice?

These sequencing worksheets help children practice handwriting as they trace each sentence and then write it on their own.

Tracing the sentences helps children focus on proper letter formation. Then, children have an opportunity to practice forming those letters on the blank lines.

How to Use Sentence Sequencing Worksheets

This pack includes both a color version and a black/white version. Choose which version works best for you, and print it on regular printer paper.

Spread the pages out on the table, and help your students think about how to make pizza. As you talk it through, have them stack the pages in order.

These “Making Breakfast” story sequencing activities allow kids to focus on each step of the task separately. There are several different ways you can present and use them. 

For younger children, I would present the pages in order from beginning to end. Talk about the events featured on each page.

Older children should be able to put a jumbled stack of pages in order on their own.

They should be able to do this by looking at the pictures even if they can’t yet read the sentences on their own yet.

To use the sequencing worksheets, have your child read the first sentence on each page. If your kids aren’t reading yet, read the sentence to them pointing to each word so they can follow along. 

Next, have them trace the second sentence with their pencil or dry erase marker. This will help them practice proper letter formation as well as tracking from left to right. 

Finally, if your kids are ready, have them copy the sentence onto the blank lines at the bottom of the page. This is a great way to help them develop hand-eye coordination as they look at the sentence at the top of the page and copy it to the bottom. 

Once all of the pages are complete, help your child bind them into a book. Then, have them “read” the book to friends and family.
