To prepare for the scavenger hunt, print out one page for each child who will participate. Then, gather pens or crayons for each one.

If you’d like to make the scavenger hunt list reusable, you can laminate them and use dry erase markers. This way, you can use them over and over again.

Number Scavenger Hunt

A number scavenger hunt is a great indoor activity for kids on a rainy day. This simple game is a great way to help kids learn their numbers and get some indoor fun on a dreary day.

Scavenger hunts can be done individually or in groups. Siblings can pair up and compete as teams, if you’d like. Or, they can race against each other.

This scavenger hunt is great for young children. You can save it for a rainy day or a hot summer afternoon since it’s done indoors.

Call out the item and how many your child needs to search for. Then, send them off to find them all.

Once they’ve found the objects listed, have them line the objects up to count again. This will help you see if they’ve got a good grasp on one-to-one correspondence and number order.

Counting Activities for Kids

There are plenty of counting activities that preschoolers can enjoy. One simple activity is to have them count to ten (or higher, if they’re up for it). This can be done with any number of objects – counting out ten toy cars, for example. Once they’ve mastered counting to ten, you can move on to counting by twos, threes, etc.

Another counting activity is to have them roll a die and count out that many objects. For example, if they roll a five, they would need to find five objects to count. This activity can be made more challenging by having them roll two dice and add the numbers together before counting out the appropriate number of objects.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to counting activities for preschoolers – the sky’s the limit!
