Turkeys are interesting creatures, and we can learn a lot by studying their life cycle. Hopefully this worksheet will help you do just that!
Turkey Life Cycle
Turkeys go through many changes during their lifetime. Here are the different stages of a turkey’s life cycle:
Egg
The first stage of a turkey’s life is the egg stage.Turkeys lay their eggs in nests, and incubate them for about 28 days. The female turkey will turn the eggs several times a day to keep them warm.
Chick
After about 28 days, the turkey egg will hatch and the turkeys will be born. They are called chicks at this stage.
Chicks are very small, and they have trouble regulating their own body temperature. The mother turkey will keep them warm by covering them with her feathers.
Poult
As the turkeys grow, they will start to explore their surroundings more. They are called poults at this stage.
Young poults are still very vulnerable, and they need the mother turkey to protect them from predators.
Adult
Fully grown turkeys are called adults. Mature adults can reproduce and lay their own eggs.
