Most pre-primer sight words are nouns or verbs that can be found in everyday language. To make learning these Dolch sight words more fun, we created flashcards for Star Wars language featuring characters from the iconic movie series.

By using these flashcards, children will become familiar with high-frequency words while having some fun as they explore their favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away!

With these engaging visuals, little learners will be able to quickly recognize and recall pre-primer sight words such as “the” and “said”—allowing them to advance their reading skills at a faster rate.

Benefits of Using Sight Words in Learning

Learning sight words is an important part of gaining literacy skills, as they are some of the most common words in the English language and make up almost 50% of all written texts.

Knowing sight words helps children to recognize them quickly without having to sound them out. This can significantly reduce the time it takes for children to read a sentence or passage, thus enabling them to understand its meaning more easily.

Additionally, with memorization of words on the Dolch sight word list comes increased confidence when reading aloud and less frustration when trying to make sense of a text.

More Ways to Use the Flashcards

The colorful images of the Star Wars characters make learning pre-primer sight words enjoyable for younger children.

Keep reading to find fun ways to use these cards with your young readers including several fun sight word games.

Handwriting Practice

Put the sight word flashcards in a pile on the table. Have children choose a card and write the word on paper for extra handwriting practice.

Memory Games

Print two sets of flashcards. Place them face down on a flat surface. Have children turn over two cards at a time looking for a match.

Spelling Practice

In addition to reading the words on the sight word cards, your kids can practice spelling the words. They can spell them out loud or copy them on paper for a little handwriting practice.
