How do you make a paper plate horse craft?

This craft is perfect for kids because it's simple to make and requires only a few materials. It's the perfect activity when you need something quick and easy.

Plus, it's a lot of fun! Your kids will love creating their own paper plate horses.

What You'll Need

• paper plate
• construction paper
• acrylic paint (black and orange)
• paintbrush
• marker
• scissors
• glue

Paper Plate Horse Craft

Step 1: With scissors, trim the top of the paper plate at an angle from left (lower) to right (higher). Cut the bottom of the paper plate straight across. Then, trim the “ruffle” off the left side of the plate.

Just freehand this part. There is no need for perfection.

Step 2: From the pieces you've cut off, cut a triangle shape for an ear, and cut a strip of “ruffle” for the horse's bangs.

Step 3: Paint the horse. We mixed the black and orange to make the textured look for the horse's face. And, we used solid black for the mane and the bangs. However, your child can use any color they'd like.

Step 4: Glue the bangs horizontally across the top edge of the paper plate. Next, glue the ear overlapping the bangs and the mane.

Step 5: Cut an oval or circle from white construction paper and shade a small section to create an eye.

Step 6: Finally, glue the eye a little bit under the ear.

Step 7: Use a black marker to draw a spiral for the nostril and a slightly curved line for the mouth.

Instructions

1. Cut the paper plate.
2. Paint the paper plate pieces. We mixed orange paint and black paint to get the textured look in our finished project. Let the paint dry.
3. Glue the bangs to the top of the horse's head.
4. Glue the ear on top of the bangs.
5. Cut a circle out of white paper and shade a portion of it to look like an eye.
6. Glue the eye below the ear.
7. Draw a spiral line for the nostril and a slightly curved line for the mouth.
8. Now, your horse is ready to be put on display.
