What is a frog?

First, start by examining what exactly a frog is. A frog is a type of amphibian animal that lives in both wet and dry environments, and has long, powerful legs that allow it to jump great distances.

Some common characteristics of frogs include their relatively smooth skin, large eyes, and webbed toes.

Life Cycle of Frogs

Now, let's look at how a frog goes through its life cycle. The first part of a frog's life cycle is known as the egg stage. During this stage, a female frog lays hundreds or even thousands of eggs. Once the eggs are laid, they hatch into tadpoles within a few days or weeks.

After this initial stage comes the growth stage, where the tadpoles undergo many physical changes as they develop into adult frogs. During this process, the tadpole's gills are replaced by lungs to help it breathe in air from above the surface of the water.

It also develops limbs and starts to appear more like an adult frog while still living in the water. After a little while, these changes result in an adult frog that can leave its aquatic habitat and live on land like any other amphibian animal.

Finally, once an adult frog reaches adulthood, it will continue to undergo minor physical changes throughout its lifespan as it ages and grows larger.

Overall, however, most frogs will typically live for several years or even decades before eventually dying from natural causes such as old age or being attacked by predators.

Preparing the Activity Pages

Now that you've taught your children about frogs and how they grow and change over their lifetime, you can incorporate these worksheets into your lessons.

Download and print the activity pages. If you’d like to make any of these activities reusable, laminate the pages or slip them in a dry erase pouch. Then, children can trace words with a dry erase marker.

Completing the Activity

To use this writing activity, your students will identify the image on the page – egg, embryo, tadpole, froglet, and frog.

Then, they'll trace the name of the stage of the life cycle featured on the page. Finally, children will trace a sentence about the featured stage.
