Spending time outside together is another great way for parents to help their children appreciate and connect with the natural world around them.

Finally, it is important to talk to children about the importance of protecting pollinators like bees from threats like pesticides, habitat destruction, and climate change, so that they can be better stewards of the environment in the future.

Life Cycle of a Bee for Kids

The life cycle of a bee begins with the egg stage. Once a female bee mates with a male, she will lay her eggs in a wax structure called a comb. Each egg is about the size of a grain of rice and is white in color

The next stage is larval. After about three days, the eggs will hatch into larvae. Larvae are small, legless creatures that resemble worms. They will spend the next six weeks eating pollen and honey brought to them by the worker bees.

Once they have reached their maximum size, larvae will spin cocoons around themselves and enter the pupal stage. During this time, their bodies will undergo some major changes as they transform into adults. After about two weeks, they will emerge from their cocoons as fully-grown bees!

Now that you’ve taught your children about bees and how they grow and change over their lifetime, you can incorporate these worksheets into your lessons.

Download and print the activity pages. If you’d like to make any of these activities reusable, laminate the pages or slip them in a dry erase pouch. Then, children can trace words with a dry erase marker.

COMPLETING THE ACTIVITY

To use this writing activity, your students will identify the image on the page – egg, larva, pupa, and bee.

Then, they’ll trace the name of the stage of the life cycle featured on the page. Finally, children will trace a sentence about the featured stage.

Print the honeycomb page on cardstock and laminate for durability. You may want to print multiple copies to have enough “cells” for the activity.

Use the next page as a template to build the various honeycombs. There are four different honeycombs to build. Or, kids can use their imagination to build their own.

Scissor Skills

Kids will start at the arrow on the left side of the page. They’ll cut along the dotted line from left to right.

If your kids aren’t ready for scissors, let them trace the lines from left to right instead.
