Procedure

Follow these steps to complete an ant body parts cut-and-paste labeling worksheet:

Print out the image of the ant on printer paper.

Cut out the labels at the bottom of the worksheet.

Glue the labels in the correct boxes around the picture of the ant.

The Main Body Parts of an Ant

All ant species have three main body parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. The ant's head contains the eyes, a pair of antennae, and mandibles (jaws) which are all used for sensing the environment and collecting food.

The thorax of an ant is the middle section of their body and contains the legs and wings (if present). The thorax has three segments, each with a pair of legs attached to it. In addition, some ants have wings attached to the second and third segments. The six legs are used for walking and soil-digging while the wings are used for flying.

The abdomen of an ant is the back part of its body. It includes the digestive system, reproductive organs, and other internal organs. The abdomen is usually the largest segment and makes up most of the body mass. It also contains a variety of openings, such as the anus and stingers (if present). The openings act as outlets for waste products or defense mechanisms.

If you're looking for a fun way to recycle and reuse some old bottle tops, you don't need to look any further.

This bottle cap craft is the perfect addition to your ant activities for kids. You can also add it to your summer, insect, or picnic preschool themes.

Spring and summer are the best time of year to learn about ants. They're out and about and crawling around everywhere this time of year.

Ant Craft for Preschoolers

Your kids can make this as a stand-alone frog craft just because it’s cute. You can also add it to your ant activities for preschoolers.

What You'll Need

• 3 plastic bottle caps
• paint
• paint brushes
• craft paper
• pencil
• ruler
• scissors
• glue
• googly eyes

What You'll Do

To begin, clean and dry three plastic bottle caps per student.

Use black paint (or red) to paint the bottle caps. Allow the paint to dry.

Glue to googly eyes to the top of one of the bottle caps.

Cut out two thin strips of black craft paper and then fold them in half.

Glue them on top of the bottle cap with eyes. These will be the ant's antennae.

Now, cut out six more skinny pieces of black craft paper.

Glue them (the legs) to the bottom of each bottle cap.

Use the free printable template to cut out a leaf shape from green paper.

Use a green marker to outline the leaf and to draw veins.

Glue the leaf on a colorful square of craft paper.

Then, glue the bottle caps on the leaf to finish the craft.
