What is Presidents Day?

Presidents Day is a federally recognized holiday in the United States held on the third Monday of February.

On this day, we honor the presidents of the United States, both past and present.

Presidents of the United States

In the printable pack (scroll down to download) you’ll find a list of all the presidents of the United States from George Washington to Joe Biden.

Presidential Biography

Choose one or more books about presidents for your kids to read (or for you to read aloud) in the weeks leading up to Presidents Day.

Depending on the ages and reading levels of your children, you could choose nonfiction picture books for your younger kids or a full chapter book for your older ones.

Then, have your children fill in the graphic organizer included in today’s free printable.

Challenge older students to turn the information they’ve gathered on the graphic organizer into a written report, if you’d like.

Why do we celebrate Presidents’ Day?

After learning about Presidents’ Day and reading about one or more Presidents of the United States, have children complete the writing prompt “Celebrating Presidents’ Day is important because…” on the writing page included in the printable at the end of this post.

Presidents Day Word Scramble

Children will have fun unscrambling the names of eight US Presidents. If your younger children would like to participate in this activity, you may need to provide them a word bank to work from.

Presidents Word Search

Word searches are fun for kids, and they’re great skill builders, too. Children work on visual discrimination as they search the grid for the correct letters.

They work on spelling skills as they find all of the letters in the featured words.

And, they strengthen fine motor skills as they grip their writing utensils and circle the words on the grid.
